SIGATOKA Methodist High School student Gordon Frank Ravuama defied all odds after being bedridden from dengue fever for more than one week to yesterday win a gold medal in the Nadroga-Navosa Athletics Zone meet.

Ravuama, 19, won the senior boys 1500 metres event at Lawaqa Park.

The sickness did not deter him from giving his best and he thanked the Almighty Lord for his achievement.

“I did not want to let the sickness affect my race,” he said.

“I gave my best. I was bedridden for more than one week from dengue fever before the zone, but I thank the Lord for allowing me to compete.”

Ravuama, who failed to win any medals during past Coca-Cola Games said he wanted to make his name this year.

“I competed in the Coca-Cola Games for the past two years and I failed to win any medal. My aim is to make it count this year and to do my school proud,” he said.
