OVERLOADING is still a pressing issue that impacts Fiji Roads Authority’s (FRA) assets which includes jetties, roads and bridges.

In a statement, the authority advised heavy vehicle owners to comply with the vehicle axle load limits to prevent further deterioration of the road network caused by overloading.

“We are working closely with the LTA and the Fiji Police Force to monitor overloading,” the statement read.

“We would also like to advise the public to drive carefully across the bridge as per the posted speed limits and comply with any weight restrictions placed on these bridges.”

The FRA’s assets are all of Fiji’s roads, bridges and jetties including land on which assets are located with all the associated infrastructure such as drainage, streetlights, traffic signals and other street furniture.

The FRA also considers its buildings, vehicles and other operational equipment as part of its asset portfolio.

The authority’s latest estimates valued these assets at close to $11 billion, making the road network Fiji’s most valuable built asset.

“We have to acknowledge overloading and the impact it has on our roads and bridges,” the statement read.

“All that weight pressing down on our assets just accelerates the downward spiral of an asset’s lifeline.”
