Fours years for aggravated robbery

A 23-YEAR-OLD man who pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated robbery was sentenced to four years and two months imprisonment by the High Court in Suva.

Serupepeli Draunamasi admitted that on June 2, 2018, with another, robbed a person of a mobile phone which was valued at $300 and $10 cash in Shalimah Street.

Justice Vinsent Perera  said Draunamasi was remorseful of his actions and he did not waste the court’s time.

A non-parole period of two years and six months has been set.

Meanwhile Usaia Tikoicina who is the other accused in this matter had pleaded not guilty and is awaiting his trial.

Justice Perera told his defence counsel to explain to Mr Tikoicina that if he is found guilty after trial then he is looking at a sentence of more than eight years.

Mr Tikoicina has been remanded and the matter has been adjourned to November 28, for mention.
