Four Fijian political parties have been suspended with immediate effect for 30 days for breaching the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act, 2013 by way of failing to provide its accounts within the required timeframe.

The suspended parties are FijiFirst Party, All Peoples Party, New Generation Party, and We Unite Fiji Party.

According to the Act, all parties are required to provide to the registrar a record of accounts of its income, expenditure, asset and liabilities – audited by a certified auditor – within three months after the end of each financial year.

“All political parties were given a one-month extension to submit all accounts and other disclosures by April 29, 2023. However, until today, the four named parties have not complied with these requirements,” Ms Mataiciwa said in a statement.

She said the parties were suspended for 30 days and allowed 60 days to remedy the breach or face deregistration as a political party.

The 30 days period will end on May 29, 2023.
