FOUR players who featured for the Flying Fijians rugby team in the Rugby World Cup in Japan will participate in the match against the Barbarians on Sunday.

Eroni Mawi, Mosese Voka, Ratu Veremalua Vugakoto, and Frank Lomani are the only players who are available from the RWC squad while other players who make up the team to face the Barbarians are local-based reps who were part of the Fijian Drua team in the National Rugby Championship.

Some other Fijian reps from New Zealand have joined the team at training.

The Flying Fijians had their first solid training session at Lensbury, England on Monday ahead of their clash against the Barbarians in Twickenham this Sunday.

The team held an open training session for fans yesterday morning.

Assistant coach Senirusi Seruvakula said the match would be a learning lesson for the local-based players.

“It’s a good mixture and exposure for the players with a few boys from New Zealand and the local boys and this is another level in playing in international stages and its good for their exposure, Seruvakula said.

“It will gain them experience as well playing with some of the boys that played in the Rugby World Cup in Japan and it’s a big step from the Drua and now to the Flying Fijians but it’s good they’re mixing with some of the players from the Rugby World Cup and like I said it’s a big learning step for them,” said Seruvakula.

Meanwhile, a crowd of 50,000 people is expected to watch the game.

“Playing in a big stadium and fully packed will be a new experience for these players especially for the local players that have only featured in the Skipper cup and in the NRC but for this one, it will be a memorable one for them,” he said.

The Flying Fijians will play the Barbarians at 3.30am (Fiji time) on Sunday.
