KILLING strays is an ineffective means of reducing the number of loitering dogs in the country, says animal welfare advocate Maleeka Buksh.

Ms Buksh, who is also the director of the Greater Good Foundation – an animal sanctuary in Ba, says sterilization is the only proven method to reduce the dog population.

She said that in an effort to reduce the number of strays in Lautoka, the Foundation was conducting a neutering and spaying clinic over two weeks from February 19 to March 2.

The clinics will be conducted at the old Lautoka Police Station, interested persons should contact Ms Buksh on 8640200.
