THE Highlanders Super Rugby team outside centre Sio Tomkinson’s judicial review will be conducted today by the SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee on a alleged dangerous tackle found against him on their 30-27 win against the Chiefs in the first round of the Super Rugby competition last Friday.
Tomkinson was red carded for an alleged high tackle and failed to grasp the opponent on collision.
According to the nature of the offence by law 9.13, a player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Dangerous tackling included, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders and by law 9.16, a player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp that player.
The Highlander’s impact backline player was alleged to have breached these laws by his physical defensive play in the 67th minute in the second half of play.
All SANZAAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to the Foul Play Review Committee to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.
For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the Foul Play Review Committee.
