FIJI’S Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama opened the second day of the 5th Pacific Urban Forum at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi today.
He said the discussions made at the Forum was critical to the Pacific’s urban development.
He said it was also important that the region prioritised the development of rural and informal settlements.
The Pacific Urban Forum (PUF) is a regional event that aims to provide a unique and accessible platform for urban stakeholders to debate what creates a sustainable urban future for the region.
The first PUF in 2003 gave rise to the Pacific Urban Agenda (PUA) which was endorsed by the United Nations ESCAP Commission in 2004 and by the Pacific Island Forum Leaders in 2005.
The PUFs in 2007 and 2011 reaffirmed commitment to the PUA in its format up to then.
