Former roko tui dies

FORMER roko tui Macuata Ratu Jone Matanababa has passed away after a short illness at the Labasa Hospital.
Ratu Jone hailed from the Nawaivuvu clan, a sub-clan within the chiefly clan of Caumatalevu that traditionally holds the title of the Tui Macuata.
Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere confirmed the passing away of Ratu Jone who succumbed to diabetes over the weekend.
“It is too early to say anything about Ratu Jone’s funeral arrangements because he had just passed away yesterday,” he said.
“He will be missed being a senior member of the Caumatalevu clan.
“Ratu Jone had experience in the running and the administration of the vanua since he had worked as the roko tui Macuata before. He is survived by his wife Silipa Matanababa and a child.”
Ratu Jone is well known for his belief and support towards marine conservation works.
