Former national players honoured

THE Fiji Football Association, on Monday night, honoured present and some past footballers including the 1988 team that beat Australia.

Fiji FA commended the players and members of the 1988 team in the Vodafone Premier League awards night at its headquarters in Suva.

About $42,500 in prizemoney was given away during the ceremony.

A range of awards were given for the 2017-2018 season including the Vodafone Premier League, Senior League and the Vodafone Youth League.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel acknowledged Vodafone for its continued assistance and contribution to the sport.

“We thank Vodafone,” Patel said.

“Without them supporting the association we would not have such great competitions and platforms for our football stars and stars of tomorrow.”

Patel also honoured the presence of members of the Fiji football legendary 1988 team who made history being the only Fiji team to ever beat the Socceroos and have been chief guests during the 2018 Courts Inter-District Championship which ends today in Suva.

: Vodafone Premier League 2018: Winner: Lautoka ($18000 cheque & trophy), Second place: Ba ($6000 cheque), Third place: Nadi ($1000 cheque).

Golden Boot Award
: Rusiate Matarerega of Nadi, 8 goals (Award, Vodafone prize). Fair Play team: Lautoka (Award, Vodafone prize).

Vodafone Senior League 2018: Winner: Nasinu ($6000 cheque & trophy), Second place: Lami ($2000 cheque), Golden boot Award: Taniela Rakariva of Lami, 12goals (Award, Vodafone prize)

Vanua Levu Zone winners: Savusavu ($750), Vanua Levu Zone runner-up: Taveuni ($750), Viti Levu Zone winners: Lami ($750), VIti Levu Zone runner-up: Nasinu ($750).

Vodafone Youth League 2018: Winner: Rewa Youth ($4000 cheque), Second place: Seaqaqa Youth ($1500 cheque), Golden Boot: Charlie Benjamin Jr of Rewa Youth , 9 goals

Vodafone U16 Youth League 2017: Northern winner: Labasa U16 ($500 cheque & trophy), North runner-up: Seaqaqa U16 ($250 cheque), South winner: Navua U16 ($500 cheque & trophy), Southern runner-up: Rewa U16 ($250 cheque), West winners: Ba U16 ($500 cheque & trophy), West runner-up: Rakiraki U16 ($250 cheque).
