Former MP returns

IN 1999, Ratu Meli Bogileka became a member of parliament when he won the Ba West Fijian Communal constituency and the Party of National Unity formed a coalition with the Fiji Labour Party.

Ratu Meli makes a return to the political arena after last contesting the general election in 2006 but this time he intends to do so on a FLP ticket.

He said FLP’s policies and aspirations for the people of Fiji reflected his views.

“The FLP manifesto reflects the dreams and visions I have for Fiji and I think this would be my last attempt to stand in the elections and an attempt to salvage our nation and its ailing economy and other socioeconomic problems that the country has seen in the last eight years,” said Ratu Meli.

“That’s what ignited….sort of sparked the desire to get back into parliament and serve the people of Fiji. The FLP executives approached me to contest the elections and seeing that my views were similar to what the manifesto has, I agreed

“Being a candidate is about having the heart to do what it takes for the people of the nation. For me, it’s simple.”

Ratu Meli may have been away from the political scene but he has been working with the Ba Provincial Council in bettering the life of the people he serves.
