LONDON Wasps back row forward Nathan Hughes has been named in a provisional 45-man England elite player squad for a pre-season camp this month.
According to the BBC website, the former St Thomas High School student qualified on residency this summer and features for the first time under head coach Eddie Jones.
With England billed to play South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia in November, Nathan could get a crack to play against his countrymen if he makes the cut.
Nathan is the son of former national hockey rep William Hughes.
His uncle, Asaeli Hughes, is a former dual international having represented Fiji in basketball and rugby.
He was scouted by Kelston Boys High School’s physical education head of department, Athens Henare when their under-16 side played against St Thomas High School in Lautoka in 2008.
Kelston offered Nathan a partial scholarship in 2009 based on his education and rugby ability, physical attributes and family connection in West Auckland.
He went on to represent the Auckland U18 secondary school team.
Nathan signed up with the Auckland Rugby Academy and was given full scholarship at Kelston a year later.
He made his debut for Auckland in the ITM Cup against Otago in 2011.
In March 2013, Nathan signed up with English premiership side London Wasps earning 74 caps so far.
