Former interim minister will not contest election

TAVEUNI chief and former government minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau will not contest a seat during the upcoming general election.

Although he believes that pursuing other avenues were best choices at this stage, the former Fijian affairs minister in the Bainimarama interim administration in 2007 said he was not too old to retire from politics. “I am going to concentrate on my business right now and I am already doing that,” he said.

“I have no intentions to stand in the upcoming election.

“I have a lot on my plate to do and my business is one of it and I want to pursue that in this time.”

Ratu Epeli said that years spent in the field of politics were interesting times of his career.

However, he believes it was time to venture into other business opportunities.

In 2010, Ratu Epeli resigned from his ministerial post. He also served as the Commander of the Fiji Military Forces and was also chairperson of the dissolved Great Council of Chiefs.
