FORMER Fiji High Court judge Justice Kevan Townsley has passed away.

In a statement issued today, Chief Justice Anthony Gates said the late Mr Townsley passed away in April this year at the age of 89 in Australia.

Justice Gates said Mr Townsley accepted a position in the High Court of Fiji in 1997 serving in Suva and later in Lautoka.

“Judge Townsley returned to Brisbane following the coup in 2000,” Justice Gates said.

“As a judge, he was insistent on high standards in his court. But he will be remembered as a jovial, good humoured and humane person both in and out of court.”
