THE Foreign Affairs Ministry is facing difficulties in filling vacant positions, Minister Inia Seruiratu told Parliament during the Committee of Supply’s deliberations on the 2019-2020 National Budget yesterday.

Mr Seruiratu said the budget allocation for staff recruitment had been reduced when compared with the past financial year.

“We can manage with the reduction. At the moment we have 17 vacant positions in the headquarters,” he said.

“We are finding challenges in recruiting people because in Fiji there are international and regional organisations, they join these organisations.

“We will manage the vacant positions even though the allocation has been taken away from us.”

Opposition MP Salote Radrodro said the removal of staff establishment in the national budget was not transparent.

In response, Attorney- General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the permanent secretary of each ministry was responsible for recruitment and advertisement of jobs.
