APART from drug raids and interceptions, the Fiji Police Force is also looking into the purchasing activities of drug trade suspects and the properties and assets that they own.

This was the word from Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.

“We have been very successful with our raids and interceptions but that is not the be all and end all in the war against drugs,” he said.

“There are other areas we are pursuing like proceeds of crime and unexplained wealth from drug activities — people who obtain assets and property without any obvious means to do so.

“It’s not just drug raids — there is a whole conglomerate of activities and operations that’s involved in this.

“It is quite complex and some of it will take time, but believe me when I say that we will leave no stone unturned in our endeavour to identify those involved in this trade. “We will take them to task.”

Brig-Gen Qiliho said the extraordinary effort being invested by his team in addressing the drug issue was driven by the desire to give the future generations a drug-free nation.

“I don’t want to go down in history as the police commissioner who never did anything about this or who never put a stop to it.

“At the end of the day, it’s about what our children and grandchildren will be exposed to in the next few years — that is the motivating factor that is driving me and my officers.

“I can assure the people of Fiji that we are on top of our game.

“We thank the members of the public for coming up with information and I must acknowledge my officers for going the extra yard, extra hours and lack of sleep to rid our nation of this scourge.

“We are passionate about it because we don’t want our children and grandchildren to encounter these things in the future.”
