THE health of police officers has always been an area of concern as the people of Fiji expect more from members of the police force.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho highlighted this in a statement today as the Fiji Police Force kicked off the Required Fitness Level Tests at the Nasese foreshore this morning.

“One’s health and their ability to produce the desired outputs are linked and that is why we cannot have sickly officers as they won’t be able to serve efficiently in this demanding profession,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

He has been concerned with the health and the level of fitness for some members of the institution following the high number of deaths of Police officers succumbing to Non-Communicable Diseases.

Since January  1 the Force has laid to rest 5 police officers who also succumbed to NCD complications.

“We are grateful to the Ministry of Health for assisting us with our Health Audit so we are able to understand what needs to be addressed with our health,” he said.

The Required Fitness Level Tests will be conducted in all four policing divisions.
