The Fiji Food Truck’s Veilomani Program which supported the less fortunate and supplied more than $10,000 worth of medical equipment to health facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic is back.

Owner Randall Kamea says under their revamped program, a portion from every meal sold would go towards providing meals, toiletries and sanitary products for the less fortunate.

“The program grew from the food truck because of the customers and the followers we have on social media,” he said.

“Former Fiji residents overseas reached out and made donations of which Lami Health Centre and Navua Hospital were two of the biggest recipients.”

Despite the challenges they faced, the program was able to support people through the pandemic over the past two years as well as supply more than $10,000 worth of medical equipment to health clinics and hospitals.

“We managed to get passes during covid and kept feeding those that were out on the streets and just making sure they were well looked after.

“We got them medication if they needed it or saw doctors if they were sick. From that we ended up getting a lot of donations for health centres and hospitals, especially during covid.”

Mr Kamea said this year the program would continue to ensure the less fortunate got good and healthy food.

“It’s a bit colder at night now so nutrients are important.

“We’re hoping to grow it and get barbers who would like to come along and offer services to groom them. This week we’re just planning over logistics and hopefully once it gets rolling we’ll grow into something that’s bigger and better.”
