The Lautoka District Council of Social Services (DCOSS) is reopening its food bank to assist families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lautoka DCOSS media liaison officer Apolosi Ranawai Lasei said the organisation had helped more than 2000 people when they began their COVID-19 assistance campaign in April.

“We provided assistance for the most vulnerable families, especially those who lost their jobs,” he said.

“The assistance was carried out for a couple of months and it depended mainly on our donors and the funds we received.

“We took a break but now we are back to distributing our food packs to people who need it.”

He said the organisation was also welcoming contributions from private organisations or individuals who were willing to assist the community workers.

“People can contact us on our Facebook page or our Lautoka office if they want to donate to our cause.

“Since we started this campaign, we have been able to help people who have been struggling to look after their families.

“We are grateful to the people that come forward to help us because at the end of the day, we are helping the vulnerable.”
