Focus on the PNC

Inspired by their Rugby World Cup qualification, the Vodafone Flying Fijians have set their focus on the Pacific Nations Cup title.

A win against Samoa in Apia this weekend will secure the side the PNC title.

Head coach John McKee said the side would iron out all the basic mistakes committed against Tonga before facing Samoa.

He said the team would analyse their performance and rectify the errors.

The team went through a recovery session in the pool yesterday.

“We are going to Samoa and we are expecting another tough game,” said McKee.

“We take a few lessons this week and we need to be sharper against Samoa and to try and win the Pacific Cup championship.

“We did our recovery this morning before we do our analysis for the Samoa game.”

The side is likely to make few changes this weekend against Samoa after injuries to some players against Tonga.

Halfback Seru Vularika, prop Peni Ravai, wing Josua Tuisova and second five Jale Vatubua suffered niggling injuries on Saturday.

Prop Peni Ravai said he had recovered and would be ready for the game against Samoa.

McKee is also expected to name local boys Joeli Veitayaki, Mosese Voka, John Stewart and Eroni Vasiteri this weekend after missing out against Tonga.

Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians have been drawn with the Wallabies, Wales and Georgia for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The side departs Tonga on Monday for Fiji before leaving for Samoa the same afternoon.
