FIJI Airways Flying Fijians received a grant of $300,000 from the Government through the Fiji Sports Commission yesterday at the Fiji Sports Commission head office at Laucala Bay, Suva.

The $300,000 grant was to fund for the Flying Fijians northern tour in terms of their logistics and other financial needs.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor expressed his gratitude to the Government and the Fiji Sports Commission.

“The FRU would like to thank the Fiji Sports Commission for considering our grant request and assisting the rugby development here in Fiji,” O’Connor said.

“We are indeed so thankful for this great assistance which supports the preparation and tour expenses for the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians on their northern tour.”

Fiji National Sports Commission chairperson Peter Mazey thanked the Government for the support towards sports in Fiji.

“Rugby is our national sport and the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians on this northern tour will continue to promote Fiji and its people,” said Mazey.

Mazey said it was important for the team to prepare and perform well in all three matches.

“Government is investing in the team and in return it expects the team to perform consistently, especially against Tier 1 nations,” said Mazey.
