FLS refutes A-G’s claim

THE Fiji Law Society has refuted claims by the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum that some members of the private bar were not willing to provide legal aid services.

Responding to the claims made by the AG at the opening of the Pacific Regional Legal Aid Commission Conference in Natadola last week, FLS president Laurel Vaurasi said they fully supported initiatives that support access to justice for all Fijians.

“We applaud the Legal Aid Commission in championing this cause, providing access to those who cannot afford or access justice and legal services are an essential pillar of the rule of law and so much credit is due to the Commission,” she said.
