The Fiji Labour Party will fight this year’s election on a platform “to get our freedom back”.

Leader Mahendra Chaudhry made the comments at a party meeting in Qalitu, Lautoka on Wednesday night.

“We want our freedom back,” he said.

“Everything else comes after that. We are all born free men and women and we must refuse to bow down to dictatorship and to tyranny. That is what I will be fighting for and what this election is about.

“It is about our freedom, it is about our dignity, it is about our self-respect as human beings and as citizens of this country.

“Our human rights, our self-respect, freedom to speak, freedom of assembly has been stolen from us. We want all that back.”
