SENIOR Labour politician and former senator Sachida Nand Sharma has been elected the acting president of the Fiji Labour Party(FLP), succeeding the late Lavinia Padarath.

FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said the appointment was made unanimously at the party’s management board meeting that was held in Lautoka yesterday.

Mr Chaudhry said Mr Sharma was a well known retired Suva businessman and had been a staunch party activist since 1992, and had also served on the FLP executive board as vice president for more than a decade.

Mr Sharma also holds the post of acting national treasurer of the party.

Mr Chaudhry said substantive appointments would be made at FLP’s annual delegates conference in November.
