FLOODING will now be a problem of the past for 65-year-old Gyan Wati after drains near her home were widened and cleared recently.
The spinster who lives alone with a son said her compound was always inundated with rain and sea water during heavy rain.
Ms Wati said this affected her vegetable farm from which she earned her living.
“Flooding has been a problem that I face during adverse weather conditions for the last two years since I came to Qelewaqa,” Ms Wati said.
“Thanks to the Ministry of Waterways who widened and cleared my drain, flooding will now be a problem of the past.
“We just have to maintain the drain now.”
Ms Wati was visited by Minister for Waterways Dr Mahendra Reddy as he monitored their projects in the Northern Division.
Dr Reddy was visiting their drainage rehabilitation projects in Qelewaqa outside Labasa Town today.
