THE flooded Soasoa road outside Labasa Town affected travel for more than 3000 commuters along the Wainikoro, Malau, Vunika and the Macuata area.
Traffic had to be closed in the area on Monday after drains overflowed during the inclement weather experienced in the North over the weekend.
Residents in the area say the problem is a recurring one during heavy rain.
Farmer Abhishek Kumar said they had been raising their concerns to authorities.
Another resident, Shakuntla Prasad, said authorities needed to seriously look into their concerns.
The Fiji Roads Authority said in a statement yesterday that they were aware of the issue.
It said the Soasoa flats were opened yesterday.
“Members of the public are urged to exercise caution,” the statement said.
“Other roads that are closed in the North are Nasarava crossing on Nasarava road in Labasa, Qelemumu crossing on Qelemumu road in Labasa, Vunivau Village road in Labasa, Navakuru crossing on Nakorotari road, Naduna road Labasa, Zailav crossing on Zailav road, Natua, Nakama crossing on Naduna road, and the Vuniyalayala crossing on Vuniyalayala road.
“Motorists are advised to please drive to the conditions, slow down, and be aware of debris on the roads.”
