FIVE police officers died as a result of non communicable diseases (NCD) since January, this year.

In a statement, Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said the health of his officers was always a major concern. He said the public always expected more from the Fiji Police Force.

To address this issue, Brig-Gen Qiliho said they had started with a program known as the required fitness level test in Nasese, Suva yesterday. His concerns came after the force buried five of their men who died as a result of NCDs.

“One’s health and their ability to produce the desired outputs are linked and that is why we cannot have sickly officers as they won’t be able to serve efficiently in this demanding profession.

“We are grateful to the Ministry of Health for assisting us with our health audit so we are able to understand what needs to be addressed with our health,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

The test would be conducted in all four policing divisions across the country.
