NAMOSI Secondary School athletics team created history during the Suva Zone 1 meet by winning its first event in the girls division at the ANZ stadium last two weeks ago.
An achievement the school team manager Atunaisa Waqaicelua says got the team hyped about competing in this year’s 2020 Coca-Cola Games however remained modest. Namosi athletics dominated the long-distance track events.
Runners Pita Benedito and Koleta Tubailagi are the ones to see at this year’s Fiji finals. The two were on cloud nine after winning the event two weeks ago, but remained focussed on completing
the task at the main event come April 16.
Pita said he has been competing over the past years and never won ay medal until this year’s Zone 1 competition.
“I will now sacrifice my time on training to win gold again for the Coca-Cola Games,” he said. Senior girls 800 metres event sprinter, Koleta said all the rainy days and mud training had paid off.
“Now I’m looking forward to competing in the Coca-Cola Games and aims to win gold,” she said. Namosi ended the meet with a strong finish topping the medal tally with 11 golds medals, nine silver medals and two bronze medals.
Ratu Sukuna Memorial School won the boys division with 12 gold medals, five silver medals and 10 bronze medals.
