Fire heads into tourney as underdogs

THE Fire Rugby team has labelled themselves adunderdogs heading into the 2019 McDonalds Coral Coast Sevens next week.

Head coach Akuila Nasi said his new side will look to take their pool matches one game at a time and does not look to call any results early.

“It is a totally new side from what we have fielded in the past,” Nasi said.

Nasi said his young side consists of fire-fighters with the average age being 20.

“It’s been awhile since we returned to be part of such big local tournaments and I thank the organisers of the Coral Coast Sevens for allowing us to be part of such a major tournament.”

Nasi said before heading into the Coral Coast Sevens there is an obstacle they must first tackle this weekend which will be the Tabadamu Sevens tournament that will be held in Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

“The Tabadamu Sevens will be the first run on for the team and the tournament will give us a better understanding of what to expect next weekend.”

Fire are in a strong pool at the Coral Coast Sevens with Suva Stallions Rugby Club, Coastal Brothers Rugby and Ratu Filise Rugby Club.
