A fire in Maro, Sigatoka destroyed a house owned by a 56-year-old farmer on Friday afternoon.

The house was made of corrugated iron and had partial block rooms.

The farmer’s wife and three children were home at the time and reported hearing an explosion from the nearby Energy Fiji Ltd post, which resulted in the house meter box also exploding.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the house was destroyed with its contents.

“There were nil casualties,” she said.

“Total estimated cost of damage is $130,000 and the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.”
