AT the age of 30, Salote Fiona is a handicraft entrepreneur, juggling her household chores and her own business which has gained popularity with overseas and local customers.

The Waivunia native from Savusavu who owns her own handicraft business “Fiona’s Craft Creations” also has a social media account that has raked in customers from as far as California in the US.

Ms Fiona said attending the Marama Tikina Savusavu Handicraft Show yesterday was a platform for her to share and learn new ideas to further her business.

“To have innovative creations, I get tips from the internet application known as Pinterest which has ideas from around the globe,” she said.

“For instance, today (yesterday) I have a flower creation made from fish scales. “Actually, when I read the idea I thought it was just unrealistic but when I made it, people really loved my creation.”

Ms Fiona said the returns from her handicraft sales had enabled her to put food on the table and provide for her family.

Meanwhile, the spokeswoman for the event’s organising committee, Torika Uluiviti, said about 200 women were part of the event.

“This year, the nine village women groups involved in the event had a good turnout and a perfect opportunity to market their products,” Ms Uluiviti said. ”

Next year we plan to take the event to another level as a fundraising event.”
