FOR Vilomena Merekula, a cane farmer of two decades, the financial assistance of $5000 will certainly boost her cane production and income.
The farmer of Korotari in Labasa described the assistance as a sigh of relief. “After my lease expired three years ago, I remained on the land because I had reapplied for the lease but it wasn’t easy surviving as I had no income,” she said.
“So when my lease got approved, I started a new chapter and planted another five acres of land and that increased my cane production and income.
.”This grant of $5000 will double my production and I am looking forward to planting more cane and support my family.”
