Fiji’s library service opens China reading corner

A CHINA reading corner was today opened at the Library Service of Fiji and was officiated by the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Education, Alison Burchell.

While speaking at the opening held at Vuya Road in Suva, Ms Burchell said the event itself was an innnovative approach and added a taste of China in Fiji.

“This is a small part of China in terms of the history, which is vast in a small corner of our library and hopefully in time, it will continue to grow,” Ms Burchell said.

China’s Ambassador to Fiji Xian Bo said the materials for the Chinese corner were donated from Zhengzou Library.

“I understand that the China reading corner consists of over 6000 books and other hardware such as computers, reading desks and chairs donated by Zhengzou Library,” Mr Xian said.

He acknowledged China Cultural for the facilitation of the event and the Zhengzou Library for generously donating the books and materials.
