FijiCare, tourism stakeholders discuss possibility for micro-insurance bundles

Listen to this article:

FIJICARE Insurance Ltd has provided micro-insurance bundles for farmers in the dairy, sugar, copra and rice farming sectors with the possibility of the tourism industry joining in the near future.

Company managing director Peter McPherson said they were having discussions with stakeholders in the tourism sector on the possibility of micro-insurance bundles for workers in the tourism sector.

His comments were made in response to questions by the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, Vijay Nath, on whether there were plans to have micro-insurance schemes for those in the tourism sector.

Mr McPherson said they were having discussions with the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) on the issue and were optimistic of extending their micro-insurance bundle to the tourism industry workers.

He said in the past 20 years, the company had paid out $100million to its clients in terms of claims.

The team from FijiCare Insurance Ltd was in Parliament this morning to present their submissions to the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs on the RBF Insurance 2017 annual report.
