A SPLASH of colour coated Lautoka City where more than 300 Fijians took part in the APCO Coatings Colour Explosion Fiji fun walk yesterday afternoon.
The 5.7 kilometre walk brought together young and old for an event that combined fun and high energising activities to raise awareness on the fight against non-communicable diseases.
Opening the event, Assistant Minister for Health Alex O’Connor said the 5th Colour Explosion Fiji had been consistent in its message and advocacy of NCDs in the country.
“I believe the catalyst to this event was a mixture of a passionate community worker, a blood clot and participants of Funky Fitness. In 2014, a group of professional and dynamic Lautoka residents formed this event where they identified the important need to educate, empower and highlight to others the impact of NCDs which is our nation’s biggest killer.”
He said the ministry was proud to be associated with the event that brought people together for a common goal which was to beat NCDs. Colour Explosion Fiji co-founder Paula Benn said the event had grown in stature since its inception five years ago.
“I want to thank every person and sponsor especially to APCO Coatings for supporting us in our important work to promote a healthier lifestyle,” she said.
