Attempts to remove any government through the barrel of the gun “must stop” and there should be no more coups.
Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua added that Fijian desired peace, and that any person or group that wished to disrupt peace and security in the country deserved to be opposed and resisted according to the law.
The Minister said as developments of security issues continued in other parts of the world, of note between China and Taiwan, added Fiji had its own internal security challenges.
“Most significantly of which is to maintain peace and stability,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“It is unfortunate, Hon Speaker, that since the announcement of the outcome of the 2022 General elections, some people, including politicians who have failed to earn power legitimately at the polls have continually attempted to destabilise the security of our beloved nation,” he claimed.
“It is the rule of law that they do not want to respect. They continually incite and propagate for the RFMF to take power, essentially to remove the elected Government of the people.
“We are a region of peace. A blue Pacific of peace. We do not desire war. We cannot afford war.
“… We the Fijian people desire peace.”
Mr Tikoduadua urged Fijians not to use the RFMF as a platform to achieve their own political ambitions.
“It doesn’t matter if you are a citizen Premila or citizen Jone. It is the reason why the judiciary is the third arm of the State. It is there to hear and judge our grievances. Use it.
“Let me assure all Fijians, your security is secured. It’s our concern. It’s our responsibility.”
