The sporting restrictions during the current COVID-19 pandemic lockdown will not affect the national teams’ preparations for the Oceania Football Confederation competitions some of which serve as qualifiers for the various FIFA World Cups.

The men’s senior team was in camp in Ba last month for a week in preparations for the OFC qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the lockdown hasn’t affected the national teams’ preparations because there were no pending major OFC tournaments in the near future.

Yusuf said OFC had postponed all the regional competitions.

“Once the local competitions resume then the players will go back to national camps,” he said.

“There is ample time to prepare. In the meanwhile the players are to keep up with their individual training and also look after their families.

“They need to obey all the guidelines to help get the country back to normalcy.”

The OFC group qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be played from January 1-31 next year.

This year’s OFC U16 Women’s Championship has been postponed pending FIFA’s confirmation of date for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in 2022.

The new competition date will be proposed once confirmation is received from FIFA and will be played in Tahiti.

This year’s OFC U19 Women’s Championship has been postponed pending FIFA’s confirmation of date for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2022.

The new competition date and venue for the regional qualifiers will be proposed once confirmation is received from FIFA. The OFC Futsal Invitational 2021 has been rescheduled for 2022.

The OFC executive committee has agreed to cancel this year’s U20 Men’s Championship following FIFA’s decision to cancel the 2021 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Samoa will host the regional event next year.

The OFC Executive Committee has also agreed to cancel this year’s OFC U17 Men’s Championship following FIFA’s decision to cancel the 2021 FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru.

Fiji will remain as the hosts for regional event which has been rescheduled to next year.

The OFC Women’s Nations Cup, that was scheduled to be played in January-February 2022, has been pushed back to June-July 2022 while the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup 2021 has also been postponed and a new date will be confirmed following consultation with FIFA.
