The Fiji Council of Churches (FCC) and people from different faiths came together in prayer and held its first ever prayer gathering at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Suva yesterday.

Hosted by the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia on behalf of the FCC, the prayer vigil will be held over 10 weeks.

Anglican Diocese of Polynesia committee representative Esita Vukicanavanua said as the nation prepared for the national general election, people should pray for the nation.

“We are planning to pray for our country specifically focusing on the preparations towards the elections,” she said.

“The mass that began today will be the beginning of our ecumenical partnership within Suva and this was an initiative brought up during our executive meeting a few months back.

“Our theme that we are going to carry on for the next nine weeks is ‘Spirit of God unite us with your love’.

“Next week the Salvation Army will host.”

Every Thursday for an hour until the end of August, member churches through the local parishes in Suva will host an hour of prayer where people can gather and pray for Fiji.
