The Fijiana 15s rugby team yesterday set one of the world’s highest scores in the sport during the start of the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship in New Zealand.

The competition, comprising of Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Fiji, returns for the first time since 2019.

It started in Auckland yesterday at Massey Park at Papakura. The Senirusi Seruvakula-coached side beat Papua new Guinea 152-0 after leading 76-0 at the break.

Oceania Rugby reported that the tournament provided valuable preparation for Fiji, ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2021 (playing in 2022) and would be the first time Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga played on the international stage since 2020.

Seruvakula featured 18 debutants led by captain Bitila Tawake. Manusina Samoa, on the other hand, released 15 debutants and beat Tonga 25 – 17.

Fiji meets Tonga on Wednesday at the Navigation Stadium, Pukekohe starting at 7pm after Samoa meets PNG.
