Fijiana aims for Cup quarter-final

THE Telecom Fijiana side wants to play in the Cup quarter-finals when they participate in the first Canada 7s tournament later this month.

The team will be looking to better its previous two performances where they won the Bowl.

The team hasn’t qualified for the Cup quarter-finals and National 7s coach Ben Ryan has been helping them in the technical aspects of the game to help them qualify for the Cup quarter-finals.

The Telecom Fijiana is grouped alongside series leaders New Zealand, England and Spain

Coach Iliesa Tanivula said they had prepared well and hoped the team would come out from the doldrums and qualify for the Cup quarters.

“It is never easy to go and compete at any 7s tournament. Obliviously we want to make the Cup quarters this time as we are also in contention for qualification to the Olympic Games next year,” Tanivula said.

“To help us we had Ben Ryan work with the girls at the technical part of the game and there has been a difference noted in how we manage our tactics on the field.”

Fiji Rugby Union CEO Radrodro Tabualevu said FRU was confident that the team would do well compared with previous tournaments and also thanked the TFL CEO Mothilal De Silva on their continuous support towards rugby in Fiji.

TFL CEO Mothilal De Silva said it was a proud moment for the company to support the Fijiana 7s team and other rugby teams in the country.

“We believe the team will do the country proud as you know Fiji is rugby crazy nation and with every tournament these girls take part in it only improves their performance.

“If they win we also win. It’s a proud moment for us to sponsor this team,” De Silva said.

The Canada 7s will be held from April 18-19.
