The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has deployed 170 soldiers for peacekeeping duties in Sinai, Egypt under the Multinational Force and Observers last weekend.

In a statement from the RFMF, the soldiers were led by Commanding Officer 2nd Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment Batt 40 Lieutenant Colonel Atunaisa Vakatale.

They left onboard a Royal Australian Air Force plane. Lt Col Vakatale said the aim was to deliver a successful mission.

“We are looking forward to the next 12 months or so ahead of us,” he said.

“My troops have prepared well and are fit physically, spiritually and mentally.

“We intend to continue the good work done by my predecessors. They have laid a good platform on which we will launch our operations from.”

He said he was optimistic that they would deliver what was expected of them.

The RFMF also confirmed yesterday that more than 100 Fijians soldiers who had just returned from peacekeeping deployment in Sinai were in quarantine in Nadi.
