President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere yesterday helped out his fellow villagers to raise funds for a water project to meet increasing demand.
Villagers of Naduri in Macuata raised about $14,884 to expand the project to enable it to cater for 300 dwellers.
Speaking on behalf of Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame, his traditional spokesperson Mosese Nakoroi thanked the villagers for such an initiative.
He told the villagers that organising the event showed how committed and dedicated they were towards development projects, and not depend on handouts.
Committee president Pasemaca Valelau said the project was imperative because villagers suffered from intermittent supply during dry weather.
“The village elders discussed this issue because it was a continuous challenge for us and we decided to raise funds for the project,” Ms Valelau said.
