Lynda Tabuya has criticised Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem for referring her to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption on the “Rock the Vote Fiji” issue, but not doing the same to the FijiFirst party for its Civic Car Park banner.

The People’s Alliance deputy party leader said “it is no surprise” Mr Saneem has referred her to FICAC in relation to the Rock the Vote Fiji issue but the SOE must do the same with FijiFirst party general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

“FICAC has already called me in for questioning on the same issues,” Ms Tabuya said.

“However, if he finds me in breach and has referred me to FICAC, why has he not referred the FijiFirst party and the general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to FICAC for the illegal placing of their campaign material on the Suva City Council car park which he found was a breach of the Electoral Act?”

Ms Tabuya also asked why the Supervisor of Elections had not referred FijiFirst to FICAC for breaching the Electoral Act on a billboard advertisement in Nakasi.

She said the billboard did not state that it was authorised by the general secretary of the FijiFirst party and did not state the name of the company that had printed it.

Section 112 of the Electoral Act requires campaign material published by a political party to include the name of the person who authorised the material, the company that printed it and the date it was issued.
