Fijian Parliament: Tabuya says law not applied equally as those in power

MEMBER of opposition Lynda Tabuya says that many Fijians do not believe in its laws since it was not applied equally in the same way as those in power.

Responding to the President’s address during the opening of parliament last week, Ms Tabuya said  most Fijians felt disheartened and betrayed when they watched the video of suspended fellow opposition MP Pio Tikoduadua being assaulted by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Ms Tabuya said Fijians watched as police dragged the case for weeks on end.

“In the end, the Hon Prime Minister apologised and flew off to be a chief guest overseas while the assaulted Hon Pio Tikoduadua got suspended for half a year without pay same way to those in power,” Ms Tabuya said.

She also lauded former parliament staff Iliesa Raduadua who was also present in parliament this morning for standing his ground even after he was blamed for leaking the video of the assault.

“Because of this, many of us have lost trust in the custodi- ans of those laws, our Government,” she said.
