SOME Members of Parliament were breaching the standing orders yesterday while delivering their responses to the 2019-2020 National Budget in Parliament.

This was highlighted by the Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau this morning.

As MPs entered into the second day of the budget deliberations, Ratu Epeli reminded MPs to address Parliament in English.

“It has been brought to my attention that Members of Parliament are breaching Standing Order 28, they have to address the Speaker in English,” Ratu Epeli said.

“The standing orders are clear that MPs should address the Speaker in English and I expect nothing less than this.”

“If you make an expression in the Fijian language or another language, I need to know.”

Meanwhile, there would be consideration of bills in today’s sittings.
