Fijian Parliament dissolved

PARLIAMENT has been dissolved.

The dissolution, effective today September 30, 2018, was announced in a Government statement moments ago.

Fiji’s president Major General (ret’d) Jioji Konrote dissolved Parliament today – in accordance with Section 58(3) of the Constitution – on the advice of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

The writ for elections is expected to be issued tomorrow.

According to the Constitution, the writ for the general elections must be issued within seven days from the expiry of Parliament or from the proclamation of its dissolution by the President.

Mr Bainimarama met the President today.
