Fiji’s Nazhat Shameem Khan is the new President of The Human Rights Council.

The Permanent Representative of Fiji to the United Nations Office at Geneva was elected after a secret ballot.

She received 29 votes, Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri of Bahrain got 14 votes and Ulugbek Lapasov of Uzbekistan received 4 votes.

Mrs Khan will be in office for the year 2021 and takes office immediately.
