Subrails Furniture opened its first shop in Lautoka back in 2000 and 20 years later, the family owned business employs more than 200 staff around Fiji.

Speaking at the opening of the new Subrails Furniture outlet in Nausori, Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport permanent secretary Shaheen Ali said that yesterday marked another achievement for Subrails Furniture Ltd with its brand new store in Nausori.

“In fact this is your 14th store and this is evidence of your continuous determination and confidence in the Fijian economy.

“Subrails is an example of our very own Fijian investor, who started over two decades ago from what was just a furniture store in Lautoka to a renowned business in Fiji today.”

Mr Ali said Subrails was a great example of a branded Fijian Made business that had invested in adding value to the precious timber resources.

“We are encouraging Fijian businesses to process and value add to the abundant resources our country has-weather in agriculture, forestry or fisheries.

“So for all Fijians, the campaign holds one and only message — think local and buy Fijian made. By doing this, we ultimately help ourselves and Fiji.

“We need your commitment to our Fijian businesses, to help them grow, especially during this global pandemic.”

Subrails Furniture owner and director Subrail Gounder said his humble beginning and sacrifice as a sugar cane farmer and joiner from Koronubu in Ba had been rewarding and he had started to reap it slowly today.

The 67-year-old man said that after opened his first shop in Lautoka he never looked back and kept on striving forward to be a better businessman till today.

Mr Gounder encourages people from the three province of Rewa, Naitasiri and Tailevu to visit his new furniture outlet at Gulab Nabi St in Nausori.
