FIJIAN rugby 7s fans are the talk of the New Zealand Sevens in Hamilton.

For the past two years, including this weekend, Fijians have spiced up the annual event.

Fiji men’s 7s team manager Jone Niurua revealed before the tournament that the Hamilton tourney had always been the best for the Gareth Baber-coached side in terms of crowd support.

Among Fijian fans at the FMG Waikato Stadium yesterday was a group of women.

They are from Fiji and three of them are from Newtown, Nasinu where superstar Jerry Tuwai lives.

They are seasonal workers, but they took time off to support their hero and their team.

They had a banner which read NTK.

“It means Newtown kid,” said group leader Natasha Waqa.

“Jerry is our hero and we are here to support him.”

Waqa said taking the tournament to Fiji in 2023 would be a blessing for Fiji.
