TWO Fijian cricketers left for Darwin on Friday to play for the East-Asia Pacific team that will contest in the Rising Stars Quad Series which will start today.
Makutu Seru and Viliame Mana will be joined by players from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Japan in the East-Asia Pacific.
The side will take on teams representing PNG, the Australian Indigenous XI and the Northern Territory Strikers in a series of Twenty20 and 50 over matches.
“For Makutu and Viliame, who are also members of Fiji’s senior men’s national squad, this will be a unique experience for them to hone their skills on a turf wicket, ahead of the Senior men’s development tour,” said Cricket Fiji marketing and communication officer Laura Macintosh.
“This will be followed by the International Cricket Council’s EAP Twenty20 World Cup and World Cricket League Qualifiers later in this year.
“Aside from the three Fijians, there are five players from Vanuatu, five from PNG, and one Japanese player in the team, which will be coached by PNG’s John Ovia.”
